I’m on a plane right now, trying to think of how to introduce myself to you, and of course, I want you to think I’m super wise and have it all together. The sad truth is, the girl writing this blog has just spilled French Vanilla coffee creamer all over herself and her 12 inch “airplane personal space”. That’s pretty much me in a nutshell! Read on at your own risk…..you’ve been warned.
I’m a fan of top 10 lists….so, maybe we should just start there. Here’s the Julie Salva Top 10.
Top 10 Things You’ll Want To Know About Julie
I am a Jesus-loving girl. He’s saved me from myself so many times. The fact that He not only loves me, but He delights in me (Zeph 3:17), is almost more than this Southern girl heart can bear.
The next loves of my life are Mark and Matt. Mark and I have been married 26 years, and we’re the best thing that has ever happened to each other. He gets me…….and I make him laugh. #truelove I’m also the mom to Matt, our 19 year old…..and I’m happy to report that I am recovering slowly from the fact that he is away from me since he’s a college freshman. I’m currently investigating my homeschooling college options.
Friends and family are IT for me, and God’s blessed me with some great ones!! I’ll take a bullet for them. Well, maybe not a bullet, more like a rubber tipped dart….but still, it’s the thought.
Totally addicted to The Blacklist, Madame Secretary, So You Think You Can Dance, Project Runway, Dancing With the Stars, and CheezIts. It’s important that you know that.
I used to teach high school English and loved it! My favorite book to teach was, and will always be, “To Kill a Mockingbird”. That book will PREACH!
I love to read…..World War Two history (I know, that’s totally weird) and Crime / Spy novels. The upside is that I learn alot…..the downside is I’m pretty sure on any given night there’s a serial killer outside my door.
I teach an awesome LIFEgroup (that’s the fancy name for Sunday School) at my church…..FAITH. I love teaching these (mainly) twenty and thirty year olds! They let me think I’m still somewhat relevant.
I love to joke and find fun in everyday life. My friend, Melodi, says sarcasm is a spiritual gift. If it is, I was the first in line.
I love, love, love college football, and the Florida State Seminoles! Mark played football there, and that’s where this sorority girl and football player met! (Another story for another day!) I can have an intelligent discussion about football schemes, Project Runway, World War Two battle plans, and God’s grace. Which probably reiterates the fact that I’m just weird.
I sing – loudly and badly. But God loves my joyful noise. I’ll jump from Casting Crowns, to Carrie Underwood, to Les Miserable in a New York minute. Surprising no one, my musical tastes are all over the place!
And because it’s my blog, and I can, I’m adding an 11th fact. (Obviously, Julie’s Top 11 List just wasn’t working for a title.)
I love to teach. It’s my passion. It’s my gift. It’s who I am. Why do I teach?
Because someone out there needs to know God loves them.
Because someone out there needs to know there’s hope in their circumstances.
Because someone out there needs to know God has a life more abundant for her.
Because someone out there needs to know that hard times don’t equal the end.
Because someone out there needs to know that her identity is not defined by the world.
Because someone out there needs to quit chasing her chains and be set free.
Because Jesus loves you and you need to know that.
Is that you? It’s sure been me. So….why do I teach? For you. For me. And to share about a God who loves us dearly, no matter what.
