I live in Nashville, ya’ll. Music is a big deal here. Country music is a huge deal here. In fact, if you live in or near Music City, USA, you’d best be in front of the flatscreen come “Country Music Awards Day”. We all put on our cowboy hats and boots, and if we can manage to watch the show while sitting in the bed of a Ford pickup, drinking our Coca Cola in a red SOLO cup, with our high school sweet heart, near a field of Friday Night Lights, petting our hound dog, with a soldier nearby holding the American flag, all the better.
What? It could happen.
Seriously though, I watched the CMA’s last night, not really sure what to expect. I was hoping to hear some great music, laugh a little bit, and be entertained, and I was.
What I didn’t expect to see though, was one man stealing the show. But I did.
By now, you’ve probably heard of Chris Stapleton, the best country singer no one had ever heard of. In fact, if you google Chris Stapleton today, you’ll find articles from Rolling Stone and USA Today, all about him. Evidently, he’s been around a long time, as a very successful songwriter. Adele, Kenny Chesney, George Strait……they’ve all sung his songs.
Last night, the rest of us were clued in to his talent. And he’s got a bunch of it.
But I wish I had googled Chris Stapleton yesterday morning. Because I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have been trending, and USA Today and Rolling Stone wouldn’t have written about him. In fact, this morning I had to go back 5 pages on Google to find anything written about him prior to the last 24 hours.
Yesterday morning, he’s just a guy. This morning, he’s THE guy.
You know how that happened? Hard work and a whole lot of waiting.
And I’m betting that a whole lot of waiting gives us a whole lot in common with Chris Stapleton.
I mean, who hasn’t had to wait before? Here’s the answer. No one. In fact, I’m pretty sure most of us are waiting now. For change. For answers. For direction. For courage. For friends. For love. For hope. Or even for a dream to come true.
This isn’t a blog about how to wait….there’s plenty of those. It’s not a blog about how you will grow through the wait…..I’ve already written that one. It’s not a four part series on the theology of the wait. It’s not even a blog about how hard work always pays off. Nope.
This is a blog reminding you of one thing……if God has placed a dream on your heart, KEEP WAITING. You can’t afford to stop. The wait may be hard, it may be long, and honestly, you may even be wondering if God really gave you the dream in the first place. If so, you’re not alone……
“As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me”. (Micah 7:7)
Friend, God has something planned for your dream and one day, when you’re not even looking for it, your wait will be over.
I promise you this…..a God given dream is a gift…….and it is worth waiting for.
So keep waiting.
